FITNESS TIPS: Week 9
Summer HEAT and Exercise
Exercising in warm temperatures adds additional stress to the body. The Big 3 factors that increase your core temperature are 1/ temperature, 2/ humidity and 3/ the exercise itself. So here is what you need to watch out for:
- Muscle cramps
- Weakness / Clamminess
- Nausea
- Headache
- Excessive sweating OR when your body stops sweating at all
What we can do to be preventive:
- Don't work out when it's Hot or humid! Avoid mid-day sun. Early Am or Pm is ideal
- Wear clothes that are sweet wicking or can allow your body to cool itself
- Wear a heart rate monitor so you can track. Keep it around 70% of max or below
- Most importantly hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, before, during, and after your workout
