9 Healthy Snack Ideas to Satisfy Your Sweet and Savory Cravings

Snacking is all the rage right now. Okay, it’s always been the rage, but now that most of us are spending all our time indoors and perhaps not as active as usual, it’s a great time to talk about snacks that are better for you than grabbing a handful of potato chips or another oreo (or 6) on your way back from the kitchen.

Here is a list of 9 healthy snacks for you to add into your quarantine food routine.

  • Hummus and Veggies

Hummus is made from chickpeas and is packed with protein and fiber, which can help you feel fuller longer. Adding the veggies in will give you even more additional nutrients. Get creative! Don’t just grab for the carrots or celery. Bell peppers dipped in hummus are swoon worthy and still have that ever-satisfying crunch.

  • Fruit and Nut Butter

If you want a snack loaded with fiber, protein and healthy fats, slice up an apple, measure out a couple tablespoons of almond butter and get to snacking.

  • Greek Yogurt and Berries

Plain greek yogurt is low in calories (and sugar), and high in protein and calcium. Throw in a handful (or more) of berries for sweetness and taste, and you’ll be snacking healthily and satisfactorily!

Keep in mind, flavored greek yogurt is typically high in sugar, so try and stick to plain!

  • Air-popped popcorn

Traditional microwave popcorn has a lot of additives and often gets a bad reputation because people load it with butter and other things, but air-popped popcorn might just be a perfect snack. It’s a whole grain, high in fiber and has a low calorie count.

  • Mandarin Oranges and Cottage Cheese

Are you a fan of dreamsicles? If so, this sweet/savory combo snack will be perfect for you. It’s packed full of vitamin-D, calcium and protein. You could even drizzle some honey over the top if you’re feeling extra fancy.

  • Almond Date Truffles

These truffles from Sprouted Kitchen are packed with almond butter, dates and vanilla. They are the perfect amount of sweet and since they’re healthy, you pretty much can’t eat too many!

  • Nuts and Cheese

Nuts are a perfect, healthy savory snack to grab when you’re feeling peckish. They’re full of protein, healthy fats and other nutrients, which vary depending on what kind of nuts you choose.

Pairing your handful of nuts with a couple slices of sharp cheddar cheese will leave you satiated and full.

  • Paleo Baklava Bars

These Easy 3-step paleo bars from Cotter Crunch are what dreams are made of. They call for walnuts and almond meal instead of phyllo dough, and are sure to be a crowd pleaser, even if you alone are the crowd.

  • Meat snacks and jerky

Beef or turkey jerky, salami, pepperoni, nitrate-free deli meat, the list goes on. There are an array of flavors to choose from – sweet, salty, mesquite (to name a few). These are a great snack to grab on the go and a great source of protein. You might even consider pairing it with the nuts and cheese from number 7!
